Will you still love me when I'm a hobo? Baby I've got this feeling and I've gotta go You know there ain't a damn thing I don't love about you Honey this is something I gotta do Gotta learn to blow this harp before I leave Out there on the road it's how I'll earn my keep Just gimme a couple of days and I'll be playing it right Til the tips fill up my bucket every night. Starting to feel alright with being alone Is that a sign my soul has died or that I've grown? Before I leave there's one I've got to know Will you still love me when I'm a hobo? Will you be waiting for me when I come back to town? Or will there be another man you've found The Appalachian Trail is calling out my name I know if I leave things will never be the same Starting to feel alright with being alone Is that a sign my soul has died or that I've grown? Before I leave there's one I've got to know Will you still love me when I'm a hobo? Will you still love me If I leave this place Will you still love me All I'll think about is your pretty face Grown a little tired of being alone I think it's time for me to head back home You'll be in my arms before too long And I'll be done singing this hobo song

Met a wonderful gal who thinks I'm great The only problem is she lives another state With a beautiful smile and long red hair Will I see her again? I don't know when or where I first thought she was out of my league A girl like that'll never go for me Started to talk and to my surprise I saw the look of love in her eyes She's got me wondering, she's got me yearning Every evening I'm tossing and turning I'm wondering, now I'm yearning Wondering if I'll ever see her again It was Friday night we were hanging out All the wrong words came out of my mouth She gave me a hug and said goodnight Maybe a second chance tomorrow night Saturday night rolled around Her and I were drinking 'em down Made a little plan to sneak away That night was great but now I've got to say She's got me wondering, she's got me yearning Every evening I'm tossing and turning I'm wondering, now I'm yearning Wondering if I'll ever see her again Went back home with her on my mind A girl like that is so hard to find Now we're on the phone almost every day And I know all the right words to say 1,140 miles away I think I can make it in a couple of days I'll find a way to get over there And see the girl with the long red hair She's got me wondering, she's got me yearning Every evening I'm tossing and turning I'm wondering, now I'm yearning Wondering if I'll ever see her again

Had a little hen that had a wooden leg Best damn hen that ever laid an egg Laid more eggs than any other on the farm One more drink won't do me any harm Cluck old hen cluck and sing Ain't laid an egg since way last spring Cluck old hen cluck and squall Ain't laid an egg since way last fall My old hen's a good old hen She lays eggs for the railroad men Sometimes nine sometimes ten That's enough for the railroad men Cluck old hen cluck and sing Ain't laid an egg since way last spring Cluck old hen cluck and squall Ain't laid an egg since way last fall My old hen she won't do She lays eggs and taters too Sometimes one sometimes two That don't feed the railroad crew Cluck old hen cluck and sing Ain't laid an egg since way last spring Cluck old hen cluck and squall Ain't laid an egg since way last fall Fritz won't eat that bird no more He'll just sell it at the grocery store Of that hen he's had his fill But it still helps him pay the bills Cluck old hen cluck and sing Ain't laid an egg since way last spring Cluck old hen cluck and squall Ain't laid an egg since way last fall

A rain that won't stop falling a sun that will not shine I'm standing on the border of the Payne County Line There's a sheriff coming now to gun me down He's sure to shoot me cold if there's no one else around It seems I stole his sweetheart if only for a night It's out the bedroom window into the morning light Riding for two weeks now without a bite to eat No whiskey for a drink and not a place to sleep Tied a dead bunch of roses from the ceiling on a string When it's all said and done now it don't mean a thing Til this wind whistles by with a solid golden ring That's how I found myself out on the road again No woman I can talk to no one to call a friend A rain that won't stop falling a sun that will not shine I'm standing on the border of the Payne County Line Tied a dead bunch of roses from the ceiling on a string When it's all said and done now it don't mean a thing Til this wind whistles by with a solid golden ring A rain that won't stop falling a sun that will not shine I'm standing on the border of the Payne County Line

I'm an outlaw on the run because I had a little fun Sheriff's got me in his sights been on this trail for a many night Send chase as fast as you can or even hire the meanest man Put a hound dog on my track you know they'll soon be headed back If this trail should come to an end I will shoot down the sheriff's men No no no you can't catch me I can ride all night to Dallas, that's half way to the Pedernales Where there's a camp of outlaw men, they steal and murder but they call me friend Among the caves and canyons our numbers make us strong I'll cut down that crooked sheriff while singing an outlaw song About our rough and rowdy ways while I dance all night on that sheriff's grave No no no you can't catch me The outlaws drink and carry on and I step out to use the john I feel a pistol in my back it seems that sheriff followed my track A take a deep breath and fear it may be my last when from the darkness there comes a shotgun blast Who is this man that saved my life? It was the father of the sheriff's wife No no no you can't catch me

The train from Kansas City pulled into town The brakes let out a shriek as it slowed down Blackie rose to his feet and said "this is my stop" The town didn't know they would bleed the last drop As night crept in on this little town They waited til no one was around Peered in the window saw a family of six By the rooster's crow this murderer had his fix If he comes to your town He brings a vengeance He brings a madness He brings a fury He brings a pain At 7 AM they were absent for chores The neighbor knocked and pounded on the door But motionless in their bed's they lie Life taken from them never again to rise

Remember the day that we first met We hadn't had that spark just yet It was soon to come now I'll never forget The feeling I was feeling was so strong In two weeks time I asked you out You said yes despite my doubts I took you out for a night on the town And the feeling we were feeling was so strong That night we had a world of fun We were up to see the rising sun I wish I could tell everyone But you told me to keep my mouth shut Exchanging glances all through the day Why do we have to hide it anyway? I know this will be over soon Because a secret's not a secret for too long Now our life is a world of fun I feel like I can touch the sun I wish I could tell everyone But you told me to keep my mouth shut Went on the mountain for a jamboree I asked you to marry me Now you are my wife to be And this feeling we're feeling is so strong Now our life is a world of fun I feel like I can touch the sun Now I'm gonna tell everyone I can't hardly keep my mouth shut

I know you rider gonna miss me when I'm gone Gonna miss your baby from rolling in your arms Laid down last night I could not take my rest My mind was wandering like the wild geese in the west A light will shine on my back door some day March winds will blow all of my troubles away Wish I was a headlight on a northbound train I'd shine my light through the cool Colorado rain I know you rider gonna miss me when I'm gone Gonna miss your baby from rolling in your arms

My baby done left me for a pedicab driver That's OK she wore mom jeans and I never really liked her My scooter and my bicycle are both broken down And the bus takes two hours just to get across town But there's no place I'd rather be Here it's not cold it's paradise to me I'd rather be down and out in Austin So glad that I'm down and out in Austin My favorite food truck packed up and drove away No longer can I sit and eat breakfast tacos all day Spent my last dollar on a pearl snap from a second hand store Went into debt eating queso at the restaurante next door But there's no place I'd rather be Here it's not cold it's paradise to me I'd rather be down and out in Austin So glad that I'm down and out in Austin Took a walk with my dog to Auditorium Shores The police said I couldn't have him off the leash anymore So we jumped into the river that everyone calls a lake Hijacked a kayak watched the bats and got baked But there's no place I'd rather be Here it's not cold it's paradise to me I'd rather be down and out in Austin So glad that I'm down and out in Austin

Bones 02:50
It's the place where many babies took their first breath Where we've joined in laughter but also have wept It's the place where you and I once did call home Now I ask of you return my bones Return my bones to this ground oh lord Return my bones to this ground I know that when I die I will have live satisfied If you return my bones to this ground Climb the buckeye tree oh I can see All the way across town I never wanna come down Go down to the creek and catch a couple of frogs Or go running through the field like a pack of wild dogs Return my bones to this ground oh lord Return my bones to this ground I know that when I die I will have live satisfied If you return my bones to this ground Sometimes at night I dream of homemade ice cream Friends and family gathered 'round on the outskirts of town Smell the lilac bush on a breezy summer day This I will remember forever and always Return my bones to this ground oh lord Return my bones to this ground I know that when I die I will have live satisfied If you return my bones to this ground

about

Fritz Hatchery was a family business that my (Patrick's) grandparents and great-grandparents owned and operated in southeast Iowa up until the late 1970s. My grandparents continued to live on the property for many years, and I spent much of my childhood there. By the time I came along, the hatchery was long gone, but the old barn and corn fields remained. It was a great place to climb trees, shoot BB guns, play baseball, and find all kinds of boyhood mischief. With this album I pay tribute to the old home.
